Real Bride Kate tells us all about her unique experience at Eleganza Sposa designing her bespoke wedding gown which was perfectly suited for her 'Alice in Wonderland' themed wedding at Fingask Castle!
How would you describe your Eleganza Experience?
Amazing. It was everything I wanted my dress shopping experience to be. Everyone was so lovely and most importantly listened and understood my ideas and style.
What made you decide to design a bespoke gown at Eleganza?
I tried on the most beautiful Riki Dalal two-piece gown. I instantly fell in love with the skirt but was not so keen on the top. Underneath I was wearing a plain corset and when we took the top off and just saw the corset with the skirt it was just meant to be.
What was the inspiration behind your design?
Originally I had visions of the Jean-Paul Gottier corset perfume bottle, as the corset I had on was very similar. When Miriam (one of Eleganza's seamstresses) started adding pieces of lace, there were elements that reminded me of my late nana's wedding dress.
Tell us about the process of creating your bespoke gown!
From my first consultation through to my final fitting, it was just the perfect experience. I was always very wary of being too busty and was not a fan of my bingo wings- and a corset top has all of these on show. Lidia and Miriam were all over this, and all the little touches they added made me feel so special and beautiful in my dress. I actually teared up when the lace shoulder straps were added as it was the first time in a long time I looked at myself in the mirror and felt beautiful. Miriam worked so hard on perfecting every little detail and I am so grateful to her for making my perfect dress.
How was your experience with your stylist? Were there expertise helpful when discussing and designing your bespoke gown?
Yes, my original stylist Jenna was superb. She put me totally at ease, I wasn't that used to getting changed with another person in the room, and she really got me. She was fantastic. Angela- who also makes paper flowers for the shop- was also excellent! And Lidia and Miriam were just stars.
Tell us about your bespoke gown!
It is my dream dress. Long flowing layers of tulle, with a leaf motif on the underskirt and 3d flowers. Corset top with lace shoulders and pearl buttons down the back.
Would you like to share your proposal story?
We were in Arran and it was the most miserable day. Rain was pouring and my then fiance suggest we take a drive. We drove around for ages, as unbeknownst to me, the original spot he wanted to propose was inaccessible because of the rain. We drove up to Brodick Castle and I saw the most beautiful white horse. I made some comment about it being a unicorn as the rain had stopped at this point and there was a huge rainbow over the field. George made an emergency stop and tells me to get out the car and go look at the 'unicorn'. I have to say, I was not thinking good thoughts about him at this point! I trudged up to the fence and when I turned around, he was down on one knee, in a puddle and asked me to be his wife!
What was the inspiration of your wedding?
I had so many ideas, but when we found our venue Fingask Castle, I knew it had to be an Alice in Wonderland Theme. It was so quirky, with huge topiaries and sprawling gardens.
What was the most memorable moment from your wedding day?
There wasn't one moment, it was all so memorable and enjoyable!
Do you have a favourite picture from your wedding day? Why is this image so special to you?
I have two favourite images. The first is a picture with me and my three flower fairies...   The second is George and I playing croquet on the lawn.
Do you have any advice for future brides visiting Eleganza?
Trust in your own ideas but be open to listening to the experts. Just enjoy your experience and all of the dresses.
